Uniting the Tamil Community of South Australia
Ceylon Tamil Association (CTA) Inc. is a non-profit organisation representing the Sri Lankan Tamil community in South Australia. Established to promote Tamil culture, language, and values, we aim to foster unity, education, and community support.
Our Journey of Heritage and Community
The Sri Lankan Tamil community in South Australia began its journey in the late 1960s, when students and professionals from Ceylon arrived in search of education, opportunity, and a new home. As Australia opened its doors to skilled migrants, Tamils brought with them a deep respect for family, culture, and learning. The civil conflict in Sri Lanka during the 1980s and 1990s saw another wave of migrants seeking peace and stability, who in turn enriched South Australia’s multicultural identity.
Recognising the need to preserve their roots and strengthen community ties, leaders formed the Ceylon Tamil Association (CTA), a place where language, arts, and traditions could flourish while supporting newcomers to integrate confidently into Australian life.
Today, CTA continues to stand as a proud symbol of unity and service, promoting Tamil culture, education, and shared progress so that future generations remain connected to their heritage in South Australia.
